I Have Nothing to Wear!!!

HELP!

I have nothing to wear. And when I say ‘nothing to wear’ I don’t literally mean nothing in my closet at all to wear, I mean nothing I want to wear. It’s easy to choose your go-to dress or outfit for a night on the town, but it can be challenging when it comes to your day-to-day look. Sometimes your everyday casual pieces can become…boring. I mean, let’s face it, not everyone can rock a Versace baroque print blouse every day. Luckily, I’ve found a way to use bold, colorful jewelry to revive boring, played out outfits! In this post I will show you how you can let your jewelry essentially ‘make’ the outfit while wearing basic, everyday tops.

When I'm feeling super casual I'll just throw on a very basic shirt. In cases like this I really step up my jewelry game with something bold and eye-catching. It's easier to draw attention away from the fact that I'm wearing my favorite $6 clearance top from Marshall's, and put's all of the focus on my jewelry. I actually get a ton of compliments when I do this because it allows my jewelry to really pop! The key is in color coordination. If you can find a piece that perfectly matches the colors in your top, you're golden.

Sometimes, I have to actually look like I have some business about myself while still perusing the aforementioned basic tops. I tend to lean more toward  dainty pieces, but not always. The look I'm going for here: Simple and sophisticated. Can you see it?

These are just a few ideas to get you started with your wardrobe makeover. There are a couple of things you have probably learned from this post: I love colorful jewelry, I love tassels, and I'm a sucker for color coordination. I also hope you learned that you can look like a million bucks without spending a ton of money on extravagant clothing. Coordinate the color of your jewelry to match the colors in your top, or allow your jewelry to be an interesting pop of color. You can take the same top and totally transform your look in several different ways with a piece of jewelry. Give it a try!

My Creative Process

Every creative type has some sort of system they use during the creative process. What may work for some artists may not work for others. I, for one, do all of my work watching TV and drinking coffee. There must be coffee. I'm going to take you through my process so you can get a glimpse of what's behind the end result. For this blog my theme is going to be red, white, and black, which is one of my favorite color combinations. Color is my inspiration for everything I make, whether it’s jewelry, art, or pottery. If I see a color scheme I like I find a way to re-create it in some way. Typically, the actual design idea doesn’t usually come to me until I’m actually sitting down about to work. I will admit that one time I saw a woman wearing a chevron-patterned maxi dress and I painted a pot with the exact same pattern and color-scheme! See, inspiration can come from anywhere!
I am a textbook night owl, so my creativity doesn’t usually kick in until nighttime. The few times I've tried to make things during the day I pretty much just sat there while my mind was completely blank. But come 8pm (or later) all of these ideas come flooding in! Go figure -_-
I’m a self-taught painter, so I chose tools that I would be the most comfortable with and I kind of just stuck with them. At some point I will look into using different kinds of brushes and tools. My style involves circular, leopard-type patterns, drip effects, and fine lines. I also have to be inspired before I create anything. There are times when I have felt like I was supposed to be doing something and forced myself to work on a project. When that happens absolutely no ideas flow and I end up feeling frustrated. There are also times when I have felt very enthusiastic about starting a project only to realize that the ideas I had in mind aren't...working. At that point I just stop what I'm doing altogether and move on to something else, completely unrelated to anything creative.
I started making jewelry with the intention of creating pieces that look like they were custom made just for my outfit. Sometimes I would create pieces to match specific outfits, and other times I would build an outfit around a particular piece of jewelry I’ve already made. I like to make jewelry that can “dress up” casual outfits. A basic top or button-up with jeans or a skirt, a colorful piece of jewelry…bam! I want the jewelry to be the focal point of the outfit. Jewelry is wearable art! I love incorporating different textural effects into my jewelry designs using unique, high-quality beads and materials. My intention is for people to wear my pieces as a means to dress up simple, chic clothing, so I need my jewelry to really stand out!
There's nothing linear about the creative process, and the way I do things one day may not work another day. I really hope you enjoyed getting a glimpse into what inspires me and perhaps you've taken away some ideas of your own. Comment below and share what inspires your passion!
